MAJLIS SUMARY

The delay by Nabi Yaqub: 

When the brothers of Nabi Yusuf realized their wrong doing towards their brother Yusuf, feeling remorseful they went to their father Nabi Yaqub asking for apology. They even requested their father to ask Allah SWT for their forgiveness.

“They said: O father: Ask /Seek forgiveness for us (from Allah) for our sins.” Sura Yusuf 12:97 

Two points to reflect in the reaction by Nabi Yaqub: 

• Nabi Yaqub did not reprimand them for their request that the father pray for them. He did not instruct them to pray directly to Allah SWT. This aya indicates that praying through to Allah SWT through an intermediary- wasila- is acceptable.

• Nabi Yaqub did not immediately plead to Allah for their request. He informed them that he would be doing it later as indicated by use of < SAWFA> in the verse: 

“I shall soon indeed seek forgiveness for you from my Lord. Verily He is Most Forgiving, Most Merciful.” Sura Yusuf 12:98.

When did Nabi Yaqub present the plea to Allah SWT? 

“he postponed it to the early hours of dawn Laylatul Jum’ah(Friday) …” 6th Imam J’afar as Sadiq a.s. 

Advise families to set aside special protected time especially with younger children on Laylatul Jum’ah to derive the blesings of this auspicious occasion. Start simply with tasbeeh of Sayyyida Fatima and recitation of salawat.
